High-performance short-circuiting switch for d.c. applications

Safety device which switches from the open state into a permanent short-circuit within a few milliseconds after the occurrence. The safety device remains in this state until it is reset or replaced by the service staff. The short-circuiting switch is able to carry the short-circuit currents flowing at the place of installation on a permanent basis until the short-circuiting switch is reset/replaced.

The criteria for the activation of the safety device have to be defined in advance and depend on the respective application. According to requirements, the safety device can be activated if a defined parameter is reached, e.g. a defined voltage threshold value or the detection of a critical condition of the installation by means of appropriate sensors.

The use of the short-circuiting switch considerably reduces the risk of serious injury to persons and property damage and even prevents it.

The short-circuiting switch, which was specially designed for d.c. applications, can be used in the following fields of application:

In central inverters of photovoltaic systems for protection against electric arcs
In photovoltaic systems for protection against very high continuous operating voltages
In inverters and active filters for protection against very high continuous operating voltages in d.c. links of inverters
In hybrid vehicles for protection of the d.c. circuit
For safe equipotential bonding in d.c.railway systems in case of an earth fault at the catenary
